In Memory of Laurence “Tex” Welch

On Wednesday November 18, 2020 Laurence H. (TEX) Welch Jr. of Bensalem, Pennsylvania passed away at the age of 59.  

Laurence was born on February 21, 1961, in Washington, DC, and grew up in Landover, Maryland.  As a young man Laurence was in the US Army. He spent his tour of duty stationed in Germany.  Upon returning home he became involved with horse racing and worked in the industry for almost 40 years. He most recently worked for The Horseman’s Purchasing Association where he was the dock foreman at Parx Racing.  He was a member of both the Loyal Order of Moose #1169 and the VFW Post 6493.   

Laurence was preceded in Death by his Parents Laurence and Dorothy Welch of Landover, Maryland and his nephew Steve Alan Burdette of Frederick, Maryland.  

He is survived by his beloved Sister, Pamela Duffy and her husband Timothy of Middletown, Maryland.  Evelyn and Daniel Burdette of Ijamsville, Maryland his great niece and nephew.   He is also survived by his Uncle Charles Stowell and his wife Bessie of Warsaw, Virginia and Aunt Sharon Stowell of Montross, VA as well as many cousin and wonderful friends. 

All funeral services will be held in private by the family.

Our Parx Family is hosting a Memorial Service with Chaplain Rick in the Rec Hall at 11 AM on Friday, December 5th. All licensed Backstretch Employees are welcomed. Tex is deeply missed by his PTHA and Parx family.
