Fifty Shades of Bay

50shadeshayOn this chilly Valentine’s Day weekend, take a look at our FIFTY shades of bay retired racehorses! Thoroughbreds are versatile, courageous athletes that compete in just about every discipline, and at the PTHA’s Turning for Home, we know that you will find the perfect new horse with us. We are proud to be an organization formed by Parx Racing’s horsemen for their retiring racehorses. Adopting a Turning for Home horse is similar to purchasing a horse, but it comes with the added knowledge that all of our horses have been properly prepared for a second career by one of our outstanding Partner Farms.

Below are just some of the many shades of bay mares and geldings who are currently or will soon be available for adoption. Once you have been approved by one of our farms and have adopted your new horse, please remember to keep us updated – we love seeing photos and hearing about how you’re doing!

About Turning for Home

TFH LogoTurning for Home is a 501(c)(3) non-profit group that has provided nearly 1,500 racehorses with a safe retirement since opening in May 2008. Realizing the industry’s need to protect the equine athletes who have worked so hard for their owners and trainers, the Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association of Parx Racing established a true “insurance policy” for our retired Thoroughbreds. With the inception of Turning for Home, owners and trainers have a safe outlet for their retiring horses.

At Parx Racing, we truly do take care of our own. Unlike most retirement and rescue programs, the majority of our funding comes from Parx horse owners and jockeys, the PTHA, racetrack management, and the PA Horse Breeders Association. The Jockey Club and other national organizations have called Turning for Home a model program for other racetracks around the country.
