Add Stakes Winning Trainer to Harry Wyner’s Résumé!
We were impressed the other day when we met Capo Kane, the big bodied colt that trainer Harold Wyner selected for $26,000 for owners Leonard Liberto and Bing Cherry Racing, LLC. His dam Twirl Me (Hard Spun) sold from Godolphin for $30,000 with him in utero, and he RNA’d for $87,000 earlier in his two-year-old year, so this was a smart bargain buy for the connections. If you remember, NY Traffic began his racing career with that same selection and slam of the auction hammer last year. In just two starts, Capo Kane has given Harry his first stakes win, and is already the sixth highest earner of the veteran trainer’s career. He is going to try to keep this one in barn 5 at Parx Racing, where the threat of a COVID shut down changed things last year. The big, personable colt easily turned back the favored Swill with a hand ride, and convincingly won the Jerome Stakes in Aqueduct on the first day of 2021. Earning 10 points on the Derby trail, Capo Kane joins Brooklyn Strong, trained by Danny Velazquez, as two Parx- based horses we can follow on the road to the Kentucky Derby in what is sure to be a better year than 2020.
