This may be a form letter but I am a real person and there are over 28,000 real people just like me in your district and across the Commonwealth.
We are Horse Racing in Pennsylvania – and we desperately need your help.
We support our families with funds that come indirectly from The Pennsylvania Race Horse Development Trust Fund.
As you know, Governor Wolf wishes to take away $204 million placed in a Trust by the PA Legislature 2017. The Trust explicitly acknowledges the Trust Funds are not the State’s money, and are in fact Casino funds the state is simply distributing to the Horsemen’s Trust. Thousands of Pennsylvanians, from farmers, breeders and owners. to people like me, made investments in our state based on the promises made under this law.
If the state is allowed to raid the fund, our industry will cease to exist and the annual $1.6 billion dollar economic impact racing has in the Commonwealth will disappear.
The 28,000 of us employed in the Racing Industry, as well as the tens of thousands of Pennsylvania Agriculture people we purchase supplies from, including PA Farm Families, PA Feed suppliers, Veterinary suppliers and a long list of other Pennsylvanians will be directly affected.
The human cost will be devastating. We will lose our homes, our livelihoods, our health insurance and more. The promise we had for a reasonably comfortable retirement will be gone.
We need your help to prevent the state from accessing funds that are not legally theirs to take away. PLEASE save our jobs – please save the jobs of everyone across Pennsylvania who will be affected!
In our industry a Champion often comes forward. The Delaware Valley’s Smarty Jones, winner of the Kentucky Derby and The Preakness comes to mind. His success helped build Horse Racing in Pennsylvania.
We are now looking for you to become our Champion, to fight for us and save Racing along with the jobs and economic impact it has on our state.
