Matthew Andrew Melendez, of Buckingham, died suddenly on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. He was 20 years old.

Born in Newtown and raised in Buckingham, Matthew was the son of Michael and Dina (Maschi) Melendez. He attended Buckingham Elementary, graduated from Central Bucks East in 2020 and was a sophomore at Temple University.

Matthew has and will always be the bright light in our world. His infectious smile brought pure joy to everyone he encountered. Matthew loved his family dearly and always had an immensely special place in his heart for his friends. Loyal, trusting, and empathetic are words that best describe a friendship with Matt. He loved to hike and join in on beach trips with his friends in the summer, snowboard in the winter, and play video games through just about any season. Matthew also enjoyed sports, Lacrosse being the one that left the biggest impact on his life. He took the sport on the road, traveling to various places on the weekends with his father, Michael, and teammates for Bucks Select – finally winning the Keystone State Games in 2014. In 2018, he won MVP while playing for C.B. East – an accomplishment his family will never forget. He loved the game but most importantly, he loved his coaches and his teammates. They watched him grow as a player, a person, a leader, a friend.

Matthew was a wild and free soul, one that could never be contained and could never be managed. He lived his life as he wanted to, experiencing all life has to offer and spending time with those who only reciprocated the pure happiness that he evoked every moment of his life.

In addition to his parents, Matthew is survived by his older sister, Nicole Melendez, his grandparents, Robert and Susan (Kuzmiak) Maschi, Rob and Tonia (Wilson) Maschi, Sam and Kate. John D. and Betty Lou (Fallon) Melendez, Mary (Melendez) and Freddie Estrada and children. John D. Melendez Jr. and Joanna (Carbon) and children, Lisa (Melendez) and Raul Colon, Shannen and family. Alexandra Melendez, Melissa (Melendez) and Victor Deleon and family. Along with many wonderful and loving Great Aunts, GreatUncles and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to Matthew’s Life Celebration, Monday, Nov. 29th, from 6-9pm and Tuesday, Nov. 30th, from 10am-12pm at John F. Givnish of Buckingham, (Leaver/Cable Funeral Home), 4886 York Rd. and to participate in his Funeral Service at 12pm.
