The Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association (PTHA) works hard to protect and provide for the Parx Racing horsemen through the guarantee of live racing, horsemen’s rights, health care and pension for horsemen, benevolence programs, and more.

Name Your Riders!

An agreement has been reached today between the Parx Jockey colony and Parx Management that promises riders for Saturday’s racing.

Thirty-four jockeys had turned in written statements to the clerk of scales and racing secretary, citing three reasons for not accepting mounts on Saturday: 1) the condition of the jockeys’ room; 2) a release all employees must complete that includes any information about any past legal problems; 3) issues with the jockeys using Jockey Guild Insurance to be used for benefits like disability insurance, accidental death, and dismemberment insurance and life insurance. Years ago, some of the colony sought out their own insurance, with contributions from Parx and the Horsemen through the PTHA.

All parties will continue to work out their issues while, thankfully, allowing the horses who have been training to run their races.
