John Carmelo Azzatori, 87, of Galloway NJ and Ft Lauderdale FL, passed away
on Monday, June 6th at Atlanticare Medical Center- Mainland Campus, after a
long grueling battle with Parkinson’s Disease. The love of his life, Diane,
was at his side as he made his transition to the Heavens above.
John was born in New Brunswick, NJ to the late John and Antoinette
(Caputo) Azzatori. He attended New Brunswick High School,
Pennsylvania Military Academy, Gannon College for his BA and
Glassboro State College for his Masters. He started his career in
Education as a History Teacher in New Egypt, NJ then Principal, as well
as acting Superintendent, for Holly Hills School in Mt Holly NJ.
For the last 20+ years John was an active thoroughbred racehorse
owner, racing out of Parx Race Track in Pa. as well as Gulfstream Race
Track in FL. Because of John’s passion for horse racing, he frequented
Borgata’s Race Book where he had a reserved seat on Azzatori Row
among his many friends. He loved his condo on Las Olas where he
enjoyed the beautiful Winter weather and outdoor dining and happy
hours.
He was known for his jokester personality, his infectious smile, and his
kind and compassionate spirit.
He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, C Diane Azzatori
(Atkinson) who was also his caregiver. His adoring mother in law,
Catherine Atkinson, who resided with him. His loving children, John
Azzatori (Jennie) and Jennifer Gordon ( Matt). His grandchildren, Alexis
Belbin, Shane Gordon, Cameron Azzatori and Kennedy Azzatori, all of
whom he adored.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022 from 10am until 11am at the Wimberg Funeral Home 211 E. Great Creek Road, Galloway, NJ 08205. A Funeral Service will begin at 11am. Entombment will be held at St. Peter Cemetery Mausoleum 500 Somerset Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.
