About the HPA

The Horsemen’s Purchasing Association (HPA) is a for-profit corporation that was created twenty years ago when the PTHA Board of Directors took over the sale of wood shavings at Philadelphia Park. As per an agreement with track management that gave the PTHA exclusive rights to sell shavings on the grounds, the PTHA would also provide horsemen with the service of safe manure removal.

By 1995, the HPA was officially open for business with just a single employee, selling wood shavings to horsemen at a very affordable price. Shortly thereafter, the HPA expanded to provide its customers with feed as well as a full-service supplier of equine performance merchandise.

The HPA has proven itself to be sustainable by consistently offering quality products at supply-discounted prices, and is conveniently open six days a week with easy access on the backstretch. Since its inception, the HPA has grown exponentially and now offers not only bedding but also feed, supplements and equipment – everything that trainers, owners and all of the horsemen at Parx Racing need for their horses.
