FULSOME WINS THE $300,000 SMARTY JONES STAKES (G3) AT PARX RACING
In the $300,000 Smarty Jones Stakes (G3), Fulsome came from off the pace to win going away under
jockey Florent Geroux. Positioned well back early, Fulsome launched a wide rally to prevail by two
lengths in the end. The Juddmonte Farms homebred added to his growing resume with his fifth-lifetime
victory. The Brad Cox trainee could be seen again in the $1,000,000 PA Derby (G1) on Saturday, Sept. 25
at Parx Racing. Alonzo ran second and The King Cheek rounded out the trifecta. The final running time
for the mile and a sixteenth was 1:45.57.
In the $100,000 Parx Summer Sprint, Beren controlled the early tempo and won stylishly by 6 ½ lengths
under jockey Frankie Pennington. Trained by Robert Reid Jr., the three-year-old son of Weigelia
collected his sixth victory from twelve career starts. Beren covered the six furlongs in 1:10.19. Marvalous
Mike ran second with Privet Moon finishing third.
The $150,000 Cathryn Sophia Stakes was won by Lovely Ride and jockey Reylu Gutierrez. The front-
running victress is owned and bred by Allied Racing Stable LLC and trained by Bret Calhoun. Lovely Ride
repelled the challenges of Bold Tactics, Marion Francis, and the late charge of Leader of the Band for a
half-length win. Final time was 1:42.66 for the one mile and seventy yards. The Cathryn Sophia Stakes
serves as the main prep for the $1,000,000 PA Cotillion (G1) which will be run Saturday, Sept. 25 at Parx
Racing.
The $200,000 Parx Dash (G3) scheduled for five furlongs on the turf, was canceled and will be brought
back Tuesday, Aug. 31.
Live racing resumes on Wednesday.
