Weekly Racing Highlights

Parx based Vequist won the $2 Million Grade 1 Juvenile Fillies Breeder’s Cup with jockey Joel Rosario for trainer Butch Reid, Jr., owners Gary Barber, Wachtel Stable & Swilcan Stable LLC & bred in Kentucky by Swilcan Stables at Keeneland Racecourse going 1 mile 1/16th. This win gives her earnings of $1,235,500 and puts her in contention for the Eclipse Awards for 2-year-old Filly of the Year.

Marshall Gramm wins Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge

Owner Marshall Gramm of Ten Strikes Racing won the Breeder’s Cup Betting Challenge Combined with his first-place prize of $322,500, Gramm had total winnings of $492,750.

Marshall Gramm, a college professor and racehorse owner from Memphis, took home first prize of $322,500 in winning the 12th annual Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge last weekend at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky.

The BCBC, the biggest live-money wagering tournament in American racing, attracted 430 horseplayers during the Nov. 6-7 Breeders’ Cup. Gramm finished with a score of 170,250 points for total winnings of $492,750, with Jonathon Kinchen finishing second with 161,025 points and total winnings of $376,025. Kinchen is best known in his role as analyst and handicapper for NYRA and Fox Sports.

Gramm, 47, has become very well known in racing as an economist specializing in odds and statistics, as well as in his role as a co-founder of Ten Strike Racing, a prominent ownership syndicate. He has taught economics at Rhodes College in Memphis since 2000.

Gramm crushed the one-way exacta of Authentic over Improbable in the final race of the contest, the BC Classic, to push his total over the top.

“I was thrilled, my biggest score ever,” Gramm said in a release. “You know you’ve had a great day, but it was nerve-racking, and a relief, and I will always be able to say that I am a BCBC champion.”

Jockey Ruben Silvera had 2 riding hat trick  3-win days on both Monday & Tuesday, with a total of 8 wins in the 3 riding days. Our leading rider jockey Mychel Sanchez had a 3 win day on Wednesday with a total of 6 wins of the 3 live racing days.

Wednesday’s 8th race ended with a dead heat between Eclipsed Moon with jockey Luis Rivera, owners Ylliehus 5 Star & trainer Ralph Riviezzo and Flatexcel with jockey Jeremy Laprida for owner Edmond Flynn & trainer John McCaslin.

The dream team Flat Out Beautiful and jockey Frankie Pennington celebrated their 8th win together for trainer Jamie Ness & owners Morris Kernan, Jr, Yo Berbs & Jagger, Inc. at Parx.
