16  …. “O my lord, by reason of the vision pains have come upon me, and I
retain no strength.
17  How can my lord’s servant talk with my lord? For now no strength remains
in me, and no breath is left in me.”
18  Again one having the appearance of a man touched me and strengthened
me.
19  And he said, “O man greatly loved, fear not, peace be with you; be strong
and of good courage.” And as he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said,
“Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.” – Daniel 10:16-19 (ESV)
The great Daniel who had been delivered from the lion’s den and had witnessed so many
other great miracles and who had done so many mighty works is the one who is the “I, me, and
my” in the passage above. How could the great Daniel have “no strength?” How could the great
Daniel be so afraid?
Well, I think, all the ‘greats’ of the Bible had times like this. They all had times when
they could not go on, they were out of strength and the spirit to keep fighting. We still have
times like this today. Don’t get down on yourself when you are overwhelmed, or paralyzed by
fear, exhaustion, or confusion. Sometimes it is best to not say anything, to just listen, think,
meditate, pray, study, and prepare.
There is much madness in the world today. Wrong being called right and right being
called wrong. Punishments for not getting the new rubrics just right, and that is tricky especially
when the new rubrics are so riddled with wrong headed thinking (I don’t mean to insult our
heads or our thinking). It seems necessary to shut down at least three quarters of the processes of
the mind to accommodate woke culture and political correctness. We see where this is leading
and like Daniel who saw where things were headed and was overwhelmed, so are we today.
What did Daniel do to get back on his feet? I might ask what did Daniel receive to get
him back on his feet? Daniel received a word from the Lord, and it was because Daniel turned to
the Lord in prayer and asked. The word that Daniel received is that he is “greatly loved, fear not,
peace…be strong and of good courage.” And, Daniel was strengthened! “I was strengthened,” it
says. “You have strengthened me” it says.
God is the same today. Humans are the same today. We get exhausted, completely worn
out, and unable to go on; but, when we call out to the Lord, he comes to us and gives us peace
and power to fight on. Yes, there are battles ahead, but fear not, prepare your mind, body, and
soul. The Lord who is the same, yesterday, today, and tomorrow is ready, willing, and able to
help. Let us turn to God for wisdom and strength and walk in the light and truth, even in these
dark and troubled times. Darkness cannot overcome the Light……
25  …. as your days, so shall your strength be.
26  “There is none like God, O Jeshurun, who rides through the heavens to
your help, through the skies in his majesty. 27  The eternal God is your
dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms… – Deuteronomy 33:25-27
