William Hogwood

Chairman of the Board, Greenwood Racing

Special Achievement

Biography: British gaming entrepreneurs Bob Green and William Hogwood purchased Philadelphia Park from ITB in 1990, forming Greenwood Racing, Inc. Involved in horse racing for 45 years, Hogwood says he has helped build up the business in a technical aspect, creating a cable network to people’s homes so they can see races from all over the country.

“We came over from the U.K. in 1989 with a view of promoting racing through the purchase of Philadelphia Park,” said Hogwood.

“Through account wagering and the design of off-track wagering facilities, we have brought the racetrack experience to people.”

In addition, he said, Parx is the most well-known racetrack in the U.K. via the Racing Channel, which people can watch in the evenings.

Hogwood is proud of his accomplishments in establishing Parx Racing as one of the pre-eminent racing venues in the country, and fully supports the backstretch improvement program, hoping that when the barn area is complete, the owners and trainers will have a place of which they, too, can be proud.

Hogwood and his wife currently reside in Bucks County. They are the parents of two sons and a daughter, and three grandchildren.
