Special Achievement

Biography: Nicholas Saponara has been a PTHA Board Member for two terms, and brings to the table an extensive resume: writer, handicapper, odds maker, horse owner, teacher, and much more. He has been widely recognized in the harness world, and was inducted by his peers into the Communicator’s Hall of Fame.

Saponara landed a job fresh out of school with The Philadelphia Bulletin and soon became the paper’s handicapper, serving in the position for nearly 20 years. He also prepared the morning line odds at Brandywine, Liberty Bell Park and Atlantic City Harness, as well as Keystone Racetrack. In addition, he was a contributor to Tom Ainslie’s “Complete Guide to Harness Racing” and taught a course on handicapping at the University of Pennsylvania.

His first racehorse was a Standardbred named Mission Hop, and in 2006 claimed his first Thoroughbred, Flying Clipper. His horses race under the name Club Risque Stable and are in the barn of trainer Randy Allen.
