Biography: Edward Lehman has been licensed in Pennsylvania as an owner-trainer for over 35 years, and was one of the first trainers to ship into the new Keystone Racetrack from Atlantic City.
Raised in Medford, New Jersey, Lehman enjoyed his father’s Tennessee Walking Horses as a boy, but soon fell in love with Thoroughbred racing when he and his dad attended the races at Garden State. That interest grew into working summers at Monmouth, then moving straight from high school graduation to a full-time job on the backstretch.
Rod’s Five Star was the best horse to be saddled by Lehman; the gelding earned over $400,000 for his Silver Rod Stables, Inc. and won the 2012 Valley Forge Stakes. He was also the early conditioner of eventual Grade 1 winner and current Parx Racing Hall of Fame member Roamin Rachel, and has continued to be a force among the smaller barns at Parx.
