Biography: When you live in Kentucky, there are two major pasttimes: college basketball and horse racing. That was no different for Bruce Casella, who attended Eastern Kentucky University after growing up in the Delaware Valley. The student social scene in the spring and fall was thirty minutes away from campus at Keeneland Race Course, and it was there that he fell in love with the sport of kings. It quickly became his career goal to promote horse racing by utilizing his degree in communications.

Casella learned early on that it was crucial for him to be well-rounded, so he learned it all, handling anything from writing to producing, camera work to being on-air, and everything in between. His diverse resume includes work for NBC and ESPN, where he had the privilege of covering the great Alysheba. He also boasts an Associated Press award for videography, an Emmy award for on-air talent with CN8, an Eclipse Award Honorable Mention for his documentary of Smarty Jones, and an Aurora award for producing the X Games.

His experience brings a national perspective to the table with the weekly Parx Racing recap program Let’s Go Racing, which Casella created in 1992 alongside current Parx Hall of Fame member and Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association President Salvatore DeBunda. The show, which also features national racing coverage, celebrated its 20th anniversary last year.

A few years ago, Casella approached DeBunda and PTHA Executive Director Michael Ballezzi with a proposal to televise the PA Derby and Cotillion, and the broadcast has brought national attention to Parx Racing, with top trainers realizing that Parx is a perfect location to prep their elite three-year-olds for the Breeders’ Cup. His goal has always been to talk about Parx with the big boys.

Casella lives in New Jersey with his wife Jenny and daughters Sarah and Jenna.
